"Shift, spin, warp, twine" by elise nuding, LONDON
Choreographed and Performed by Elise Nuding
Synopsis: Taking ropework practices as a starting point, this solo follows one person’s quest to untangle the twisted fibres of her self, once and for all. This quest is based on simplification, not complication. But simplifying things can be complex; object biographies and human biographies start to intertwine, and often, the more you try to untangle something, the more tangled it becomes. It’s a ropey business.
About: I am a dance artist; a mover and a thinker whose creative practice includes choreography, performance, and writing. Currently based in London, I hold an M.A. in Performance and Choreography from London Contemporary Dance School and a B.A. in Archaeology from Brown University. As well as performing professionally for others, I make work. My own choreographic practice arises from the cross-overs I've encountered between performance and archaeology, exploring the relationship between place, memory and people, with a current focus on the embodied knowledges of traditional labour practices.
